The Bucim copper mine took part for the second time in the Open and Career Day organized by the Goce Delchev University – Štip, in cooperation with the Economic Chamber of Macedonia and the Municipality of Štip. The event provided a platform for direct interaction between students, high school pupils, and representatives of various companies from different sectors.
Through its dedicated booth, Bucim presented employment opportunities, internship programs, and avenues for professional development, with a particular focus on young professionals from technical and engineering backgrounds—sectors that are essential to the sustainable functioning of the mining industry.
“We believe that investing in young people is an investment in a sustainable future. As a socially responsible company, we actively engage in identifying, supporting, and developing new generations of engineers and technicians through practical training, mentorship, and real career opportunities,” said Miroslav Petrov, Head of Human Resources at Bucim.
The event drew strong interest from students across multiple faculties, as well as from technical high school pupils, including those from the “Kole Nehtenin” Vocational School in Štip. Young attendees were encouraged to apply for job positions or join Bucim’s internship programs in order to be considered for future employment at Bucim and its sister mine, Borov Dol.
In the framework of the event, working meetings were also held with professors from the Faculty of Natural and Technical Sciences at UGD. Discussions emphasized the need to increase the number of students in technical disciplines and highlighted the importance of continuous collaboration between academia and industry.
“Our ESG strategy goes beyond environmental protection and the improvement of workplace safety standards. It reflects a broader socio-economic responsibility—supporting the local community, creating long-term value for future generations, and strengthening the domestic engineering workforce,” stated Alekxander Rakov, General Manager of Bucim and Borov Dol mines.
The event concluded with meetings between academic representatives and company officials, reaffirming the commitment to further collaboration between the university and the industrial sector. Through this participation, Bucim once again confirmed its role as a responsible mining company and a partner in developing the next generation of skilled professionals.
