Bucim and Borov Dol Participate in The Economist MeetUp – The World Ahead 2025

On December 11, 2024, the second edition of the conference “The Economist MeetUp – The World Ahead 2025” was held at the Holiday Inn Hotel in Skopje. Bucim and Borov Dol highlighted their commitment to sustainable development and corporate social responsibility by participating in the panel “Responsibility for the Future: Investing in People and Local Communities.”

The panel, moderated by Katerina Jordanovska Maneva, Marketing and Public Relations Manager at Croatia Insurance, emphasized the importance of human capital and local communities as the foundation for sustainable growth. Speakers Dr. Katerina Boshevska, Executive Director of Eos Matrix, Kristina Krsteva, Deputy Manager for Sustainable Development at Bucim – Borov Dol, and Zhanna Bazbi, psychologist and business consultant from London, discussed strategies for corporate social responsibility, as well as the role of education, training, and support for local initiatives in creating an inclusive and prosperous society.

The discussion revealed that some companies in Macedonia are already implementing serious strategies for community investment and meeting global ESG standards. However, the social aspect remains underdeveloped, particularly in areas such as employee well-being and mental health care.

Statement by Kristina Krsteva, Deputy Manager for Sustainable Development at Bucim – Borov Dol  “Companies that invest in their communities contribute to societal development and demonstrate their social responsibility. They foster growth even in areas with limited opportunities. The establishment of a company creates new jobs, which is the first visible positive effect. However, what often goes unnoticed is the broader impact on development. Purchasing from the local population encourages small and micro enterprises to grow. Technological advancement generates new demand, enabling local businesses to become independent and self-sustaining. Investments support this cycle of sustainable development, where each segment of the economy contributes to the advancement of others. ‘Bucim-Borov Dol’ exemplifies the application of ESG principles, particularly in investing in employee education and supporting local communities. By successfully combining traditional and modern approaches, the company demonstrates how responsible operations and sustainability can become integral to corporate culture.”

“The Economist MeetUp – The World Ahead 2025” served as a platform for leaders and visionaries to share ideas and strategies for the future. As participants, Bucim and Borov Dol once again reaffirmed their role as drivers of positive change and long-term prosperity.
