Organized by the Bucim and Borov Dol mines, a celebration took place on August 28th in honor of Macedonian Miners’ Day. The event, attended by numerous guests, friends, and associates, highlighted the significant role that miners play in the development of Macedonia’s industry and economy.
During the ceremony, attendees were reminded of the historical significance of Miners’ Day, which commemorates the Lojane Miners’ Strike of 1929—a symbol of the struggle for miners’ rights and the unity of Macedonian miners. This day serves as a bridge between old and new generations, underscoring the importance of preserving the traditions and roots of Macedonian mining.
In his speech, Mr. Ivica Karapetrov, Deputy Manager of Bucim and Borov Dol, stressed that despite the challenges faced in recent times, the mines remain stable and sustainable enterprises with a bright future ahead. Karapetrov highlighted that each miner is crucial to the success of both the company and the community.
A special moment of the ceremony was the recognition of young geoscientists who recently achieved remarkable success at the 17th IESO 2024 World Geoscience Olympiad in Beijing, China. These young talents represented Macedonia on the global stage, returning with one silver and six bronze medals. Bucim and Borov Dol are particularly proud to support and promote these bright minds.
The event also served as a platform to raise donations for Sandra Dejanovska Krastev, a mother of two young children from Radovish who is battling a rare form of cancer, as well as for the reconstruction and support of the Monastery of St. Jovan Pretecha in the village of Slepce. This initiative reaffirmed the commitment of Buchim and Borov Dol to the local community.
In celebration of Macedonian Miners’ Day, all miners received cash bonuses, with the 21 best employees being awarded higher bonuses in recognition of their exceptional work.
The evening concluded with a concert in the center of Radovish, where attendees enjoyed performances by Igor Djambazov, Guru Hare Band, and the legendary Crvena Jabuka, rounding off the celebration with music and camaraderie.
Bucim and Borov Dol mines reiterated their unwavering support for miners, young talents, and the community. Happy Macedonian Miners’ Day! Good luck!
