During the most critical days of the wildfire that engulfed Mount Goten and the surrounding area of Radovish, Bucim Mine and its subsidiary Borov Dol stood firmly behind the local community—not with words, but with concrete action on the ground. Machinery, fuel, meals, logistics—and above all, people—were mobilized without hesitation in response to the call for help.
The mine took an active role in the coordinated efforts to prevent the spread of the fires, which posed a serious threat to residential areas. All interventions were carried out in full collaboration with and under the coordination of the relevant institutions – the Fire Protection Unit, the Crisis Management Center, and local authorities. Two heavy-duty machines – a TEREX TA 300 water tanker and a KOMATSU bulldozer – were deployed to the most critical locations. In cooperation with the Red Cross of Radovish, packages containing water, electrolytes, and food were provided and distributed to firefighters, members of the Army and Police, emergency response teams, and volunteers. A total of 950 meals were delivered during the three most intense days of the firefighting operation. In addition, fuel worth €5,000 was donated to the Municipality of Radovish to support the machinery operating in the field.
The water tanker was transported on July 27 from the mine to the village of Podareš. Over the next four days, it served as a mobile water refill station—a key resource for firefighting vehicles. A dedicated team of eight Bucim employees remained on constant standby to ensure its safe and uninterrupted operation.
Meanwhile, the bulldozer was deployed near the village of Jargulica, where the construction of a protective firebreak began, ranging from 12 to 17 meters in width. In the first two days alone, more than 7.5 kilometers of firebreak was cleared—from Jargulica to Pokrajchevo, and further to the pre-existing lines above the village of Zleovo, near the dam. These interventions played a crucial role in halting the spread of the fire and safeguarding the wider region.
All activities were carried out under the close supervision and logistical coordination of experienced team members—supervisors, operators, logisticians, and drivers—all employees of Bucim.
“In moments like these, the true strength of a community is revealed. Our employees demonstrated great responsibility, courage, and professionalism when it was most needed. The support we provided was not just technical—it was a sincere investment in the safety of the community,”
— Kristina Krsteva, Director of Sustainable Development at Bucim and Borov Dol Mines
Through this intervention, Bucim once again demonstrated that it is more than just an industrial operation—it is a dedicated community partner, ready to step up when needed most. This support was not an obligation—it was a duty, both human and moral. The mine reaffirmed its commitment to stand firmly behind its community—with resources, people, and solidarity.
