On the occasion of World Refugee Day, Bucim Radovish and the Institute for Protection of Monuments of Culture and Museum in Shtip initiated a public dialogue on the needs and challenges of young people who find themselves in difficult life circumstances.

As part of its community support program, Bucim is prioritizing projects aimed at the education, career development, and well-being of children and youth. These initiatives include career mentorship and apprenticeship activities for young people in surrounding communities, support for athletic and wellness projects, participation in the “Donate a Computer” program, and the distribution of food packages to families in need.

On World Refugee Day, Bucim and the Institute for Protection of Monuments of Culture and Museum in Shtip presented an exhibition aimed at highlighting the challenges and social needs faced by young people living through difficult life situations.

Scientific research shows that children in challenging life circumstances can’t progress until they feel they belong to and are part of a social group. To educate communities on how to help these youngsters integrate, young artists aged 11-17 from around the world volunteered their artworks that highlight the aspects of life and the depths of the human heart. To create “The Book of Humanity,” young artists were called to explore what being human means. Their artworks communicate the world’s cultural richness and the values of love, kindness, and friendship through images, drawings, sketches, films, photographs, and collages.

“The Book of Humanity” is part of the Global Ready2Print Gallery, an innovative concept that allows anyone to draw attention to the current humanitarian crisis by printing selected artworks and hosting a charity exhibition in their own space.

The project is curated by Petra Zublasing, an Italian Olympic athlete and professional illustrator, and a member of #creativefellowship who works in publishing and advertising. Previous exhibitions under her curatorship include:

Students from the eastern region were provided a unique opportunity to explore the prospects within the mining industry, particularly in the copper mining operations of Bucim and Borov Dol. This initiative marks a significant step towards bridging the gap between the mining sector and the upcoming generation, emphasizing sustainable and ethical practices.

The Open Doors and Career Development Day, hosted at UGD – Shtip, served as an invaluable platform for direct interaction between the mining community and students aspiring for careers in this dynamic field. Bucim and Borov Dol, in line with their commitment to fostering good practices, showcased the diverse career pathways within their operations, spanning across Shtip, Radovish, and Konce territories.

Alekxandr Rakov, Manager of the Bucim and Borov Dol mines, expressed his growing enthusiasm for the event, stating, “Participation in UGD – Shtip’s Open Doors and Career Day underscores our dedication to nurturing local talent and advocating for the mining profession. Our focus is on facilitating education for youth, offering them avenues for career advancement and contributing to their personal and regional development.“

Throughout the event, students engaged directly with representatives from Bucim and Borov Dol, gaining insights into various roles and responsibilities within the industry. Miroslav Petrov, head of the human resources department at Bucim and Borov Dol, emphasized the significance of education and practical training in shaping the future workforce for the mining sector. “Through interactive presentations and hands-on training, our aim is to acquaint students with the opportunities available within our mines.”

Bucim and Borov Dol remain steadfast in their commitment to sustainability, community development, and responsible resource management. The Open Doors and Career Development events serve as catalysts for collaboration and knowledge-sharing, laying the foundation for an energetic and sustainable future in the mining industry.

Borov Dol and Bucim mines have demonstrated their commitment to environmental preservation by undertaking extensive efforts to clean the shores of Lake Mantovo. As part of the GENERALKA WEEKEND eco initiative, over 40 volunteers, drawn from the ranks of Borov Dol and Bucim employees, dedicated their free time to restore the pristine beauty of this crucial natural asset in the municipality of Konche.

The cleanup, which marked the second day of eco-action within Generalka Weekend’24, witnessed enthusiastic participation from both employees and management. The collective efforts resulted in a comprehensive cleaning of Lake Mantovo’s entire shoreline, highlighting Borov Dol and Bucim mines’ steadfast commitment to fostering a cleaner and healthier environment for the Radovish and Konche communities.

Ivica Karapetrov, Deputy General Manager of Bucim and Borov Dol, expressed gratitude for the collaborative endeavor, stating: “Today’s initiative exemplifies our strong belief in the importance of environmental stewardship. By mobilizing our resources and manpower, we not only cleaned up the shores of Lake Mantovo but also showcased our unwavering dedication to creating a sustainable future for current and future generations.”

As official partners of GENERALKA WEEKEND, management pledges to continue organizing and participating in similar eco-actions aimed at raising awareness among the populace and preserving the environment. The employees of Buchim and Borov Dol participated today in the largest environmental action in our country’s history, GENERALKA WEEKEND 24.

As official partners of GENERALKA WEEKEND, Buchim and Borov Dol mines collaborated with the municipality of Radovish, demonstrating their commitment to environmental preservation.

“GENERALKA WEEKEND 24 provided our employees with the opportunity to actively contribute to the improvement of our community and environment,” said Aleksandr Rakov, Manager of Bucim and Borov Dol mines. “We are proud to be part of such a significant event and remain committed to encouraging positive change for the benefit of current and future generations.“

The cleanup efforts in Radovish municipality not only demonstrate Buchim and Borov Dol mines’ commitment to environmental preservation but also emphasize the importance of joint action in addressing environmental challenges. With a focus on environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and corporate governance, the mines strive to make a positive impact in the communities where they operate. Continuing the dedication to environmental preservation, volunteers from the Konce community, along with workers from Borov Dol and Bucim, will conduct an eco-action to clean up Lake Mantovo in the Municipality of Konce on Sunday, May 19th.

The mines proudly announce the participation of their employees in the Superior Runs marathon, which took place in Shtip for the second consecutive year. Serving as sponsors of this sporting event, the mines reaffirm their dedication to promoting healthy lifestyles and teamwork, closely aligning with the values of the ESG concept.

The involvement of 30 employees from the Bucim and Borov Dol mines in the Superior Runs marathon underscores their commitment to advancing health and wellness within the community. The Mines women’s team delivered an outstanding performance, securing 19th place, while the Men’s team achieved a commendable 23rd place, highlighting the success of their collective endeavors and their dedication to active living and sports.

Aleksandr Rakov, General Manager of the Bucim and Borov Dol mines, expressed his joy at the employee participation, stating, “At the Buchim and Borov Dol mines, we cultivate a culture of health and well-being among our employees. 1,500 Seedlings Planted to Reforest Areas Around Borov Dol Mine

In celebration of Spring Day, forty dedicated volunteers from Borov Dol and Buchim Mines planted 1,500 seedlings, reforesting approximately 9,000 square meters around the Borov Dol mine. This initiative is part of Borov Dol Mine’s comprehensive environmental strategy, aimed at fostering a healthier environment and promoting community development through active employee involvement in reforestation efforts.

Marina Saneva, Environmental Engineer at Borov Dol, emphasized the significance of the initiative, stating: “Our afforestation efforts are vital for maintaining ecological balance and improving biodiversity. This action is a clear demonstration of our commitment to sustainable development and our proactive approach to environmental care.”

Alekxandr Rakov, Manager of Borov Dol and Bucim Mines, highlighted the ongoing nature of these eco-actions, adding: “At Borov Dol and Bucim, environmental responsibility and ESG principles are deeply embedded in our operations. This tree-planting initiative is part of our continuous efforts to positively impact the environment and the community. We are planning another tree-planting campaign in the fall, aiming to create a sustainable and prosperous future.”

These eco-actions are integral to the mines’ annual agenda, reflecting a strong commitment to minimizing environmental impact, engaging employees in the company’s initiatives, and ensuring responsible operations. These initiatives not only preserve biodiversity and restore natural habitats but also raise awareness of environmental care among employees and local communities.

Bucim Mine has joined the “Donate a Computer” initiative, demonstrating its commitment to environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) principles by contributing over 250 pieces of IT equipment.

The “Donate a Computer” humanitarian action focuses on collecting used computers and equipment, restoring them, and distributing them to citizens from vulnerable categories. In addition to assisting socially disadvantaged individuals, the organization also provides support to educational institutions. To date, they have positively impacted over 2,500 individuals and 30 schools across the country. Moreover, high school students actively participate in repairing the donated equipment, providing them with the opportunity to acquire practical skills.

Ivica Karapetrov, deputy manager of the Bucim and Borov Dol mines, expressed the company’s dedication to this socio-humanitarian cause, stating, “Our participation in the ‘Donate a Computer’ initiative represents our commitment to using technology for social good, promoting digital literacy, and fostering inclusive growth in the communities we serve. The donation of over 250 pieces of IT equipment, including computer cases, monitors, laptops, keyboards, printers, scanners, WIFI routers, and much more, is a tangible manifestation of our commitment to supporting digital inclusion for children in Macedonia.”

“Donate a Computer” is a non-profit, non-governmental organization that aims to ensure every family in Macedonia has access to at least one computer. Recognizing the essential role of computers in learning, the organization repairs and donates used but operational computer equipment, with a primary focus on supporting children from socially vulnerable backgrounds.

Through this contribution, Bucim Mine aligns itself with the broader goal of “Donate a Computer” to bridge the digital divide in Macedonia. The initiative seeks to empower children by providing them with the necessary learning tools, emphasizing that the computer is not a luxury but a key educational resource.

As a continuation of the long-standing Christmas tradition, Bucim dedicated the holiday days to giving gifts to the socially vulnerable residents of the local community.

In the first days of 2024, Bucim engaged in cooperation for humanitarian purposes with the Municipality of Radovish and the Red Cross of the Republic of North Macedonia – Radovish Municipal Organization. This humanitarian action, instigated by the mine, is being carried out for the fourth year, to help the citizens during the Christmas holidays. Bucim, as a socially responsible company, tries to enrich the tables of citizens from the socially vulnerable category, by donating packages with food products and groceries for food preparation, to 100 communities. The packages were distributed by representatives of the Municipality of Radovish, the Red Cross Municipal Organization of Radovish, and representatives of Bucim and Borov Dol.

“This tradition is an expression of our concern for the community. During the holidays, we visited families at social risk and gave them packages of food products so that they could celebrate the holiday with a full table. The Bucim mine will continue to help those families in need,” said Alexander Rakov, manager of Bucim and Borov Dol.

Bucim and Borov Dol, for the first time in their operations, opened their doors to the families of employees and hosted the unforgettable event “Friendship with Santa Claus”, offering a warm welcome to the children of their employees. The event took place on 30.12.2023 in the festive New Year setting of the districts of Bucim and Borov Dol.

The employees’ children were overjoyed when Santa Claus passed out New Year’s presents. It was a cheerful atmosphere in Borov Dol and Bucim with lots of smiles and socializing. More than 70% of the employees’ children were present at the event, which was enjoyed and rejoiced by all. In addition to fun games with the animators, photo booth sessions, face painting with mascots, and gifts from Santa Claus, children had the opportunity to make new friends and, also, get accustomed to what their parents do by looking at the mining machines on specially organized tours led by a group of employee volunteers.

Together, the employees of the mines decided on the activities and the concept of the event. Their opinions on how the event should be run and potential innovations were encouraged, ushering in a new tradition of celebrating the holiday season in the workplace with families. “Friendship with Santa Claus” is a shining example of corporate social responsibility and environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) values, embodying the spirit of a company that cares for its employees and their families.

“The happiness of our employees’ children is also our happiness. We foster a workplace culture that embraces the essence of family and community. Borov Dol, as a socially responsible company and a firm advocate of management principles within ESG (environmental, social, and corporate governance), announces recent activities to support the local community during the festive period.

As part of its ongoing commitment to encourage sustainable growth and development of the community, the mine donated a passenger van to the wrestling club Bucim Champions Konche during the New Year’s holidays. This contribution aims to improve the operational efficiency of clubs to facilitate the transportation needs necessary for the development of young, promising athletes in Konche Municipality. The gesture reflects Borov Dol’s commitment to supporting extracurricular activities for children in the region.

The deputy manager of the Bucim and Borov Dol mines, Ivica Karapetrov, expressed his enthusiasm for the contribution, stating: “Sport has the power to shape character and instill valuable life skills. Investing in the development of our youth is an investment in the future. We aim to encourage young athletes to pursue their passion with greater dedication and reach their full potential.”

In addition to the donation of a passenger vehicle to the local wrestling club, the Borov Dol mine continued its tradition of bringing joy to children from socially disadvantaged families in Konche Municipality during the New Year’s holidays. The mine gave Christmas packages to the children of these families, bringing warmth and happiness during the holiday season. New Year’s packages were also awarded to all the children in the Kindergarten “12 July” in Konche, as well as to the youngest members of the wrestling club, “Bucim Champions Konche”.
